Details
Business leaders often fall victim to relying on the skills they already have around them or focus on the skills that are seen to be the attributes of ‘great’ leaders, when in reality there is no clear link between these skills and the results of their business. This module aims to ensure each participant can translate their own business priorities into a set of specific leadership skills that take into account their business context, ambition, people who lead and those they seek to lead.
Outcome
You will learn how to identify and define the leadership skills that are most relevant and critical to your business. You will be given the tools to analyse exactly what leadership skills your business needs to achieve its ambitious strategic goals.
Assess

Details

After you have learned how to appropriately identify the skills you need to bring your business’s strategy and priorities to life, you need to ascertain if those skills exist in your business.

In this module, you will:

  • understand the opportunities and limitations of psychological assessments;
  • gain confidence in selecting credible assessments and techniques ;
  • complete your own psychometric profile and receive feedback;
  • have the opportunity to conduct your own 360-assessment in the business.

Although you may feel comfortable outsourcing this function to a business psychologist or psychometrician, it makes sense to have a meaningful understanding of the assessment process. Think of it this way: your Financial Director may be charged with the commercial aspect of the business, but you likely have a grasp on the revenue generated by the business!

Outcome
You will learn to use quantifiable methods to assess the current skills in the business, leading to identifying the gaps which exist.
Implement

Details

Once you have the data to quantify the leadership skills required and where that capability is in short supply, you have the basis for planning leadership development that will be fit for your business.  This might include the need to source skills differently, hire into gaps or develop the capability in your current team to address short and long-term gaps.

Once a leadership development plan has been created, there are intricacies around the implementation and execution, such as:

  • defining individual participant learning objectives;
  • designing and implementing a programme of activities and actions that will directly support the participant in meeting their objectives;
  • designing or sourcing development activities that fit with an overall programme of work;
  • setting out clear ways in which learning and application of learning can be evaluated.
Outcome
You will learn to plan and design an effective leadership development programme. You will learn various strategies and tactics to ensure that learning transfer is achieved through powerful forums, alongside how to evaluate the success of the intervention – ensuring business outcomes are attained. If this is something outside of the business’s desire or capacity, you will also learn how to select appropriate, external leadership development programmes.
Leadership capability frameworks are everywhere, but the problem with adopting something off-the-shelf is that it won’t take into account your business context and the specific capabilities required of your leaders.
Starting with your business priorities and context, this programme is designed to help you reflect on what leadership capabilities your business needs, how to assess what you’ve got and how to develop what you need.
